We caught a good time..

Went salmon fishing on the Kenai river today. Saw a lot of Bald Eagles. It's an incredibly beautiful turquoise river. But... We came away empty handed. Too late in the season I guess. But we still had a great time.

Just for the Halibut

Went fishing out of Homer yesterday for Halibut... The ocean was so nice and smooth coming out of the bay. Then the temperature dropped 20 degrees and the ocean started to churn. Caught this fish on my first try! Then I got sea sick. In between hurling, I managed to catch another fish. And then I hurled again, and again... Not fun... But at least I caught my limited.

Eloise was smart enough to stay on land and go shopping . Her adversary was Nepali Sweater Shop owner who wouldn't let us buy sweaters at a discount a day early even though they go on sale 40% off tomorrow.

Salmon fishing should be much funner today!

I felt the earth move under my feet.

Anticipating the 7 hour train ride back to Anchorage I was a bit restless when the train came to a stop after only an hour. I asked the tour guide with irritation in my voice, Why the delay? He was clueless. However, one smart passenger announced that they had just had a 5.1 earthquake in Denali. The tour guide had gotten word that they had sent a search party out to inspect the tracks so we don't derail. Okay guys, take your time. We will wait. Note, last year we on vacation in Boston and felt that earthquake too! I see a trend here. El.

View from Resolution Park

Clouds have moved in, so no view of the mountains. Great breakfast at Snow City Cafe - crab omelet and reindeer sausage... Yes, I ate Rudolph... On to Homer and the Kenai.

Alaska at its best

An amazing travel day with spectacular views. It's been cloudy and rainy for 3 weeks straight. Today was crystal clear, not a cloud in the sky. Denali is incredible.. Fresh snow on top. We saw moose and Bald Eagles on the way.

Snow covered peaks

Beautiful mountains, glaciers, and islands flying into Anchorage. Denali looms in the distance like Mount Olympus. Feeling much cooler already. Arrived at the hotel tired.. Grabbed a quick bite, a glass of wine... And time for bed.. An early train ride to Denali is set for  for tomorrow.

Heat Wave...

The plane is cooking and the A/C is out.. Huge heat wave this week over the US. Not so much in Alaska! Come on American Airlines... Let's get his jet rolling!

Goodbye Texas Heat!

A good sign?

Getting some rain the day we leave for Alaska ... Is that a good sign or a bad sign? Either way. I'm glad the rain gear and umbrella are packed.
